I wanted to check in with you on this wonderful Tuesday before Thanksgiving to not only see how your week is going so far but to also send some simple, healthy Thanksgiving tips your way. Sooooo, how is your Thanksgiving week going so far? If it’s not going as planned, you can tell me that too. Click Here to Respond.
My family and I have traveled to Atlanta to spend Thanksgiving with the hubby’s side of family. We actually drove this time because flying with a toddler can be pretty UN-PRE-DICTABLE. SHEESH! Especially when flying with Summer. (My toddler)
She actually did very well on the road though. Let’s just say we packed plenty of activities for her to do while riding.
Since Thanksgiving is on Thursday, normally this is around the time when our simple, healthy eating habits go out the window. Normally, they won’t return until after the New Year and everyone has gone back to their normal routines.
No Mama Bear! Not this year! I’m not letting you do it!
I’m going to stick with you along the way… with my pregnant belly and all.
I wanted to share with you some of my favorite, healthy ingredients that I personally use in my desserts that would make them healthier, just so it would take some of the stress off of you, in this already stressful time of year. Let’s start getting in the habit of paying more attention to the ingredients that are in your food.
The Three Healthy Ingredients Include…
- A Natural Sweetener-
I know, I know… staying away from sugar is sooo hard, but I promise you there are other alternatives out there that taste just as good as the sugar stuff. Some examples of natural sweeteners are: Maple Syrup, Barley Malt and Agave Nectar. Depending on the flavor you are trying to accomplish with your dessert, I would say just experiment and see which one suits you best. Try them in something small first and then go big!
- A Certified Organic Produce-
In the case of apple pies, sweet potato pies, pumpkin pies, cherry pies, banana cakes etc. Always buy 100% U.S.D.A. certified organic. This way you are sure that there are no pesticides or radiation used and the fertilizers aren’t made with synthetic ingredients.
- A Grain Or Nut Alternative Flour-
Instead of baking or cooking with white all-purpose flour, use grain or nut alternative flour. There are many to choose from including: almond flour or almond meal, oat flour and whole-wheat flour. If you have gluten sensitivity, you can also get them gluten-free. Experiment girl, and find one that’s best for you.
Ok, I have given you 3 (plus more) ingredients that you can use in your holiday desserts to make them a healthier version… it’s up to you to make it happen!
